Lunch at Chef Mau's

>> Sunday, October 24, 2010

If you're tired of fast foods and carenderias, you might as well take a little time to relax and travel to this place to get a serving of good food and homey ambiance.

Just before you hit the town proper of Liliw, Laguna, if you're coming from Pagsanjan, you will not miss this place.

We were seated and Jemay took our orders, who was polite, simple and friendly. The tempura salad was great. The molo soup was served hot enough for me to enjoy. I belong to the group of people who happens to love hot soups being served hot, but not hot enough to burn my tongue.

Not long after the molo soup came the pancit canton which was a big serving. Mind you, my friends and I are hard to please when it comes to servings. Just as we were finishing the pancit canton, the fried rice came with the crispy pata, our group favorite. That was one crispy pata here! Sorry, I forgot to take the pictures of the tempura salad and the molo soup.

We couldn't get enough of Chef Mau's so we asked for the menu and ordered for fillet mignon steak.

I cook but couldn't get my potatoes right. But Chef Mau's did it great and the gravy was awesome with the beef.

Then, came dessert. My friends and I came to love crepe in any form. So, three of us got mango crepe.

Then, them ordered blueberry cheesecake.

I say this is a great place to bring your friends over for a lutong-bahay dinner. And if you have an occasion and looking for a catering service, they have Chef Mau Mobile.

Here's the facade of the resto.

Something's Cookin'

I couldn't help but be curious about what's going on in that stall at the mall this afternoon.  I moved closer until I got to the side, near the 'chef.'

It takes two minutes to turn the liquid to ice cream, and about a minute to put it all in the cup.  It's called fried ice cream.  At least that's what the sign says.

Goto Paete

>> Friday, September 24, 2010

I have been going to Paete, Laguna for almost every month since June of this year. There are errands that I need to do there which is a sort of a monthly thing. I don't really mind the travel time since I have always enjoyed the travel. This is beside the fact that it is my dad's hometown and my Kaka (Tito) lives there at our ancestral home.

Sometimes, these errands take a little longer which sort of makes us need to catch some snacks whenever we feel our stomachs shout for food. My dad has been talking about the best
lugaw (rice porridge) in town ever since I can remember. But we never had the chance to try it out since most of the time, we are offered some food by my cousins there.

In my August visit, I finally had the taste of this famous lugaw that my dad always talk about. Of course there are already variations, one of which is the
goto (rice porridge with the pig's intestine). This is at Mercy's Goto. That's what the sign says. It is located somewhere behind the Aglipayan Church. The best landmark I can give you is the Paete Health Center.

Mercy's Goto has been serving the best
lugaw and goto in Paete for the past seventeen years or so. How do I know? I met the owner at the Paete General Hospital in one of my visits there last May. Mercy says she got the recipe from her mother from years back and has been making lugaw and goto that long.

Aside from the special goto, I also tasted one of the best
puto pasingaw I have ever tried. It is not too sweet so I guess it won't harm if you have a slice of it.

If you are looking for the best goto at a budget price when in this town, I suggest you try Mercy's Goto.
