Getting Ready For a Bad Weather

>> Saturday, October 16, 2010

Typhoon Megi entered the Philippine area of responsibility last night.  By then, it was named Juan.  It's expected to have its landfall by tomorrow, Sunday afternoon.

It's a good thing that here in Sta. Cruz, Laguna, we are still having a sunny day.  That's why I opted not to make this post this morning.  We should be thankful for this sunny day today, because in the lunchtime news earlier, floods already started in Malabon; and Juan isn't even here yet.

But our good friend, Teacher Anna Liz, suggested, too, that I come up with tips on what to prepare as we get ready for the bad weather.  I told her that I was thinking to come up with it later today.  But, I changed my mind.  I am posting this now even if the rains are still not here yet.  It's good to be prepared early on.  I don't want to wait until tonight.  Neither should you.

These are the things that we usually prepare when we hear that there is a typhoon coming.  I know there are still more, so please add it in the comments below.  If you have something else in mind, please.... PLEASE put it in the comments below.  It might help someone when help is needed.

  • Start filling up your water storage vessels.  It could be anything from potable water to water fit enough for washing ourselves with and the dishes.
  • Buy some food that doesn't need to be cooked.  A bunch of ready-to-eat canned foods will be the most practical.
  • Check the batteries of your flashlights and radios.  You should be buying new ones every time a typhoon is about to come.
  • If you think that your roofs have holes and leaks, check them out before rain sets in.  It's hard and hazardous to climb up once rain sets in.
  • Check your 'alunod' for some clogging.  This might be a problem later on when it rains for the longest time.  This might be a cause for a greater damage in the house if not looked into.
  • Make sure that everything that might turn lose is fastened securely.  Flying objects become hazardous during storms for people who have to go out during that time.
  • Once the news of a storm gets out, keep yourself updated by listening to the radio about the latest bulletins and announcements.
Go check these things out now.

We had a bad experience last year of flash flood with typhoon Santi ( hanggang tuhod pumasok na tubig bahang putik sa loob ng bahay) ...i hope this time it will not happen again...we should pray and always have presence of mind...don't panic...i list down very important things that i can save.
